Sri Aurobindo beschreibt in seiner epischen Dichtung URVASIE die Liebe zwischen der Himmelsnymphe Urvasie und König Pururavus und wie durch diese Liebe die Trennung zwischen Himmel und Erde überwunden wird.
Michel Montecrossa gibt in seiner zehnteiligen Instrumentalkomposition diesem Leitmotiv des Gedichtes klanglichen Ausdruck. Dazu wurde der Text in szenische Bilder aufgeteilt die als Grundlage für die Abfolge von musikalischen
Bewegungen und Motiven dienen. Jede dieser Bewegungen und Klangmotive ist verbunden mit der deutschsprachigen Rezitation der entsprechenden Textpassage, so daß ein Gesamtkunstwerk entstanden ist, das Dichtung und musikalische Gestaltung zu einem umfassenden ästhetischen Erlebnis werden läßt.

Die Rückkehr von König Pururavus von kosmischem Kampf zur grünen Erde. Die Berge und Höhen bedeckt mit weitem Schnee erscheinen in Stille und dem beginnenden Morgen. |

Usha, die Göttin der Morgenröte, kommt gemeinsam mit den himmlischen Nymphen, unter denen sich Urvasie befindet. Sie sehend, erwacht in Pururavus die Liebe zu Urvasie. |

Ein Unwetter zieht auf, in dem sich der Gigant Cayshie verbirgt um die Nymphenschar zu überfallen. Doch Pururavus erkennt ihn wieder aus früheren Schlachten. Als der Gigant Urvasie raubt und sie entführen will, eilt König Pururavus ihm nach. Aus Furcht läßt der Gigant Urvasie fallen und flieht. Pururavus eilt zu ihr und findet sie ohnmächtig im Schnee liegen. |

Das Erwachen von Urvasie und das Erkennen der Liebe zwischen ihr und König Pururavus, das einem leuchtenden inneren Morgen gleicht. Aber in diesen Augenblick des Erkennens dringt das Lachen der Begleiterinnen von Urvasie, die Pururavus ermahnen, seinen Sieg nicht falsch zu nutzen, indem er Urvasie für sich behält. Sie offenbaren ihm, daß er durch diese Entsagen das Leben der Sonnenwelt für sich gewinnt. König Pururavus läßt Urvasie in der Reinheit seiner Liebe bei ihren Gefährtinnen und galoppiert mit seinem Wagen durch die Himalayatore, über Schluchten und in eine weit gleißende Welt der einsamen Berge. Er kommt vorbei an der Gangesquelle und blickt zurück zu ihr, zu Urvasie, seiner Liebe, und sieht sie auf einem vereinzelten Gipfel stehen und ihm nachblicken. Dann eilt er weiter hinab, liebesergriffen, wie ein Stern, nach Ila, seiner Regentenstadt. Und Urvasie kehrt zurück nach Swerga, in den Götterhimmel. Aber auch sie ist erfüllt von einer Liebe, die sie noch nicht kannte, von einer gnadenvollen menschlichen Gegenwart, die tief in ihrem Herzen eingezogen war. Eines Tages wird in Swerga ein himmlisches Theaterstück aufgeführt, bei dem Urvasie in der Rolle der Göttin Laxmie mitspielt. Als sie jedoch im Verlauf der Aufführung gefragt wird, wen sie liebt, antwortet sie vor allen versammelten Göttern: “Den König Pururavus“ und bringt damit das ganze Theaterstück durcheinander. |

Tilottama spricht: “Pururavus, du hast errungen, und ich bringe keinen Traum, sondern Urvasie in dein Leben.“ Pururavus springt auf, als er den Klang des Namens hört und lauscht. Nun erklärt Tilottama dem König Pururavus das Wesen der Apsaras, von denen Urvasie eine ist, und fragt ihn, ob er nicht seine erhabene Reinheit bewahren wolle. Aber Pururavus, geblendet wie von verwirrenden Träumen, sieht aufsteigen vor sich die Schönheit der sinnlichen Welt und die Schönheit seiner Liebe zu Urvasie, die ihm mehr bedeutet als Gott und seine Glorie. Und Urvasie empfängt in ihren Augen ihn, wie die Erde empfängt den Regen. Tilottama spricht nun zu Pururavus und sagt, daß er drei Jahre Urvasie auf den Bergen, in den Wäldern und in den Städten genießen könne, daß sie aber danach nur bei ihm bleiben dürfe, wenn sie ihn nicht im Licht entblößt sieht. Dann läßt sie die beiden allein und verschwindet im Sonnenlicht. Pururavus spürt, wie ihn Jugend und Freude und die Schönheit und die Wärme der Erde durchströmen und die Erregung, daß Urvasie ihm überlassen ist. Mit einem kligenden Ruf umarmt er sie, anschmiegsam und erschauernd. |

Urvasies wundervolles Haar ist gelöst, und der Wind ergreift es und trägt es strömend über die Schulter von Pururavus. Sie umarmen sich voller Seligkeit und zum ersten Mal küßt Pururavus ihre Lippen. Zwölf Monate leben König Pururavus und die Göttin Urvasie in der abgeschiedenen Weite der Berge, und zwölf Monate leben sie ihre Liebe in den grün bevölkerten Wäldern, im Sonnenlicht und an wonnevollen Strömen. Und im dritten blumenklingenden Frühling ihrer Liebe gebiert Urvasie ein Kind. Sie möchte nun die Städte und Heime der Menschen kennenlernen, mit der Erde strahlender Mädchen – “und erfahren alle Freude und das Tun dieser munter emsigen Welt.“ Pururavus stimmt diesem Wunsch glücklich lächelnd zu. So kommen sie zum heiligen Ganges und der Stadt Ila. |
